12 Kids, Floating Pigs and a Crazy Hail Storm
We were blessed with a wonderful long weekend with our younger 12 kids. The church hosted a youth retreat for the older kids in Turvo so we and 2 other couples stayed home with the kids 10 and under. Saturday was a day of swimming and a movie in the evening. On Sunday, we had our CLM church service at a local park, along with games, and a picnic lunch of hamburgers. Sunday afternoon we had more swimming, followed by a bon fire to roast hot dogs and s’mores. It was Gessica and Matheus’ first experience of s’mores – and they filled their little bellies with a lifetime supply to catch up with the others. On Monday, our visitors from Columbus made everyone a special lunch of chocolate chip pancakes and eggs. After lunch, Jake introduced the kids to special Teater tradition – duck races in the creek behind the house. However, we couldn’t find rubber duckies any wear but plastic piggy bank pigs with their wholes closed up were a great substitute. The kids decorated their pigs before letting them loose down the creek for a few hundred meters across the finish line. The kids had a blast cheering their little plastic pigs down the river. Shortly thereafter, the weather turned a little windy and dark. So we headed inside for an afternoon movie until the storm passed. However, we got a surprise that is very uncommon here in Brazil. A one hour hail storm of marble sized pellets. Within minutes the grass was covered in white. The kids – and quite a few adults – were outside having the time of their life. There were hail-ball wars, a 4 ft. tall hail man, and a few hail angels. It was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. Check out the pictures of all of our excitement on our facebook page . It’s amazing how intimate a group of 10 can be after living in a group of 25!!! We were truly blessed with wonderful moments with our younger kids this weekend.
